EAST SIDE COASTAL RESILIENCY PROJECT, MARCH 2018

The City presented East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR) preliminary designs to Manhattan Community Board 3’s Parks Committee, where CB3 committee endorsed the project with conditions. The committee urged revised design of curved high fencing atop flood walls and pedestrian overpasses, improved lighting, “aesthetically pleasing” modifications to the proposed flood barrier and other hard infrastructure, sustainable design elements such as solar-powered lighting, educational and interpretive signage to highlight the significant purpose of the project, and more plantings and shade trees. Residents sought assurances that the design would create a “destination park” that merits the worldwide attention that the Hurricane Sandy Design Competition generated. The City team indicated that they would continue to refine the designs based on community feedback as they move toward final design. Lean more here>>
